The Renault Clio Williams Getting Ready For Comeback

The Renault Clio Williams Getting Ready For Comeback

renault-clio-williamsRenault hasn’t officially confirmed that the Clio Williams will be made available in a new version in 2014 but rumours from a reliable source assure that the car will definitely become available and will benefit from the experience that Renault has gained by participating in F1 races. The Renault Clio Williams is actually seen as being part of a larger programme through which the carmaker is trying to apply the technology used for its racing cars to the road cars that wear its name.

This programme is expected to be officially confirmed in the next months but the actual new Clio Williams should definitely not be expected on the market before 2014. What’s also unclear is if the car will benefit from the involvement of Williams. If you didn’t know, the original Renault Clio Williams had nothing to do with Williams but maybe this time things will be different. After all, Renault has already shown signs of trying to diversify its business. For instance, the carmaker started working with Jaguar in order to make possible its C-X75 supercar.

In fact, Renault has already launched a new car with F1 looks. I am talking about the new Clio RS that made its debut during the 2012 Paris Motor Show and showed off F1-derived technology. Until now Renault used to promote its F1 experience only by releasing special editions of its road cars. One successful example is the Red Bull Racing Twingo. This special edition made available modified Clio and Megane cars only for certain markets in Europe. However, the new Clio Williams shouldn’t be seen only as an attempt of Renault to show off its F1 experience. It should also be seen as an attempt to rival future supercars of its competitors. An example is the upcoming 208 GTI from Peugeot.

When it comes to the powertrain that’s expected from the new Clio Williams I must say that it’s rumoured to be inspired by the Clio RS 200. That means you should expect a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. That’s actually an engine that F1 is expected to approve in 2014. With this engine on board, the new Renault Clio Williams should have no problem delivering 220bhp.
