Driving School Could Get A Lot Longer For New Motorists

Driving School Could Get A Lot Longer For New Motorists

Driving LessonAccording to the ABI which stands for the Association of British Insurance, the “youngsters” that plan on getting a new driver’s license may have to accumulate a year of driving experience before taking any kind of driving test and gaining a driver’s license.

The Association made several suggestions regarding the whole driver-car system. First of all they strongly believe that stricter night time driving curfews should be implemented alongside a lower drink/ drive limit imposed for inexperienced drivers. The system should also imply much stricter punishment and restrictions for the breach of any of the stated curfews.

For instance, ABI CEO Otto Thoresen stated that, in order to reduce accidents with tragic losses amongst the 17-24 age-groups, certain radical measures must be taken. The ABI believes that one of the best ways of making driving a lot safer for beginners would be the introduction of a graduated license which would impose certain restrictions for those who have gotten their driver’s license less than six months ago.

Another excellent measure of protection would be the implementation of a driving curfew between 11 pm and 4 am in the morning considering that, the lack of visibility and night time driving are some of the main causes for accidents in the UK. Also the empowerment of zero tolerance for drunk driving should definitely reduce the high number of accidents caused by driving under the influence.

An interesting approach according to API would be employing a limit to the number of passengers in a car. Although car-pooling is encouraged, in case of an accident, the fewer people are in the car, the lower the risk of injury.

The banishment of the so called “intensive driving courses” would definitely help since the ones who take those so called intensive courses don’t have the necessary road experience no matter whether they pass their driving tests or not.

Not only that accidents caused by inexperienced drivers would drop dramatically which is a big YES for everyone, but it would also help with motor insurance costs. We all know that insurance for young drivers is a wallet backstab for the parents. What do you think of this matter?
