Rigid LED strips suppliers target indoor, outdoor use

Rigid LED strips suppliers target indoor, outdoor use

Makers enhance products’ water and dust resistance to match various setup requirements. Ease of installation and energy efficiency are also highlighted.

China manufacturers of rigid LED strips are improving product performance further to widen the application base and attract more orders. They are, in particular, enhancing releases’ water and dust resistance to suit outdoor and underwater installations while continuing to highlight easy installation, energy efficiency, long life span and cost-efficient attributes.

Suppliers also target the advertising sign, and architectural and stage lighting sectors. They are likewise positioning the category as a replacement for fluorescent lamps. General Lighting Electronics Co. Ltd is rolling out models with different viewing angles, covers and aluminum shell colors for enhanced visual appeal.

Buoying manufacturers’ efforts is the segment’s sustained growth despite economic uncertainties in major export markets the US and Europe.

Enterprises, in fact, anticipate a more than 10 percent rise in overseas shipment volume in the months ahead as they explore other areas. Besides the two key markets, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region are current destinations. Over 60 percent of output is earmarked for abroad.

Companies likewise continue to strengthen their domestic presence to boost sales performance further. Last year, the line experienced a more than average increase in sales amid industrywide oversupply and thinning margins, and local labor and currency issues.

Rigid strips account for 10 to 20 percent of China’s total LED output. More than 300 makers constitute the manufacturing pool. Most are located in the Pearl River and Yangtze River Delta regions. The greatest concentration is in Shenzhen, Guangdong province.

SMD, DIP rigid LED strips prevail

Products from China are mainly single-row units in SMD or DIP configuration. SMD versions incorporate 30, 48, 60, 72 or 96 diodes per meter, and the latter encapsulation type 18, 24, 36 or 48. Double-row variants adopt 180 LEDs.

In terms of emitted light and viewing angle, the options are white, RGB, red, yellow and blue, and 120 to 150 degrees. The available lengths are 25, 50 and 100cm. Some suppliers offer versions soldered with flying lead ends or markings to allow custom wiring and DIY use. Mainstream models employ 5050, 3528 or 5630 SMD LEDs with a 120-degree viewing angle and at least 50,000hr life span. Most have white emitted light, with typical color temperature ratings of 2,800 to 3,500K for warm, 8,000 to 9,000K cold, 5,000 to 6,000K neutral.

The products usually run on 12/24VDC. They feature high shock or vibration resistance. Some have an IP67 rating or anti-dust attributes as further differentiation.

Shenzhen Quantum Optoelectronic Co. Ltd’s QT-ALS5050ACW30-12 model can have a PVC enclosure to protect against dust. Shenzhen Rise Optoelectronics Co. Ltd adopts an anodized 6063 aluminum material for its IP65-rated RS-R3528-96P model. Most releases meet CE and RoHS guidelines. Some carry additional UL, ETL, TÜV and EMC certification. Many suppliers offer one- to two-year warranty.

To ensure the quality of output, companies use advanced equipment, including wave- and reflow-soldering, and injection-molding machines, from Japan or the US. They conduct operations according to ISO 9001:2008 requirements. The main materials for rigid LED strip manufacture include the diodes, PCB, aluminum alloy, PVC cover, wire, plugs and chips. Glue and silica gel are employed for water resistance, and aluminum-base PCBs for better heat dissipation. Most companies provide 3M adhesive tape.
