It's Time to Upgrade Our Scheduling Software

It's Time to Upgrade Our Scheduling Software

I've been trying to convince my boss it's time to upgrade our scheduling software. I used scheduling software at my previous place and it was great. The main thing is the fact that it let use easily share our schedules, it's surprising how much of a time saver that was.

Now we have to send e-mails to each other all day long trying to negotiate a time slot that everyone is available. In GroupReady, we used to agree that everyone would keep their own schedule up to date and know that any free time was fair game for meetings (within business hours of course). This simplified everything. You just pulled up the people, glanced through the available time slots (or even had it find one for you) and voila - meeting scheduled. Everyone got an automatic notification of the meeting and its specifics and there was no fuss.

Hmm, maybe if I have my boss in more meetings it would make him see the light. Then there's the issue of personal schedule items.

There was a time when scheduling software was just for personal use, but those days are gone with the entry of group scheduling software. If you work in a team or an office environment where people need to share calendar information, then a shared solution like this makes a lot of sense.

You can still have personal schedule items of course, just mark them as private, but for the remainder of entries, it makes everyone else's life easier when they can just see what's already scheduled and make adjustments as needed. It also simplifies the process of scheduling meetings - no more bouncing e-mails around trying to find an available time slot.

And of course of management, group scheduling software is quite a bit better than the alternative. Managers can finally see at a glance how people have their day scheduled. And when new tasks get assigned to someone, they instantly know when the task is complete.
