In the early days, Anil Kapoor had to struggle very hard to make a place in the industry. He started with small roles in films like Rachna, Humhare Tumhare, Ek Baar Kaho and Shakti.Anil Kapoor have also worked in South Indian films like Vamsa Vriksham (Telugu) and Pallavi AnuPallavi (Kannada).
Kahan Kahan Se Guzar Gaya was his first film in the lead but unfortunately it was released much later. Woh 7 Din was the first film in a starring role to be released in 1983. After that, there was no looking back
"Prem Pratap Patiyalewale" (Anil Kapoor) is a simpleton from countryside (Patiyala), who has come to Mumbai to become a Music Director in films. He stayed as a paying guest occupying a small room in a house owned by a Mahrastrian Brahmin family. 'Maya' (Padmini Kolhapure), who is the daughter of the Landlord (Nilu Phule) is charmed by his rustic for his simplicity and honesty, she falls in love with him but her parents are against the love match . Prem is beaten up and thrown out.Anil Kapoor in last year’s slick flick ‘Musafir’ with the red hot Samira Reddy.
Maya is forced to marry 'Anand' (Naseeruddin Shah) who is a Doctor and a widower having a 7 year old, daughter and an old mother who is critically ill. He knows that his mother would survive for not more than 6-7 days. 'Maya' tries to commit suicide by taking poison on her wedding night itself. Anand saves her and assures her that he will find Prem and unite them but requests her to act as a daughter-in-law for his mother sake for few days.
In these few days 'Maya' is won over by Dr.Anands daughter (a motherless child) who accepts her as mother and her Mother-in-law who puts complete faith in her. Dr. Anand's mother dies as expected meantime, Dr. Anand finds 'Prem' and invites him home with the intention of uniting him with Maya. But Maya has a change of heart. In these seven days she has grown to love her husband and his motherless child. Prem also refuses to accept Maya back in his life, pointing out that she no longer is his lover but someone's else's wife. The story ends with Prem going on his own leaving, Maya with Dr. Anand and his daughter.

Both the director Bapu and I have been very inspired by Laurel and Hardy, Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin and Raj Kapoor. I think our admiration for these actors came through in the character of 'Prem Pratap Patiyalewala'. In fact, I’d say there’s a bit of all these four actors and Roberto Benigni of 'Life Is Beautiful' fame in 'Eeshwar', 'Mr India' and now 'Badhaai Ho Badhaai' as well. â€

Eshwar and Saheb were family oriented movie's which had a heart touching theme.Yudh and Kaala Bazaar were flop movies. Subhash Ghai's Karma gave Anil Kapoor a chance to show his talents. His role fetched him popularity. Ram Laakhan also helped Anil Kapoor in exhibiting his acting talents. The number ajee, Ojee proved that this actor would dance also. But Trimuti was a total flop. In 1989, Tezaab was released and Anil Kapoor became Super star in night. His character Munna was appreciated by public to such an extent that, even today after many years his performance is praised by people. Anil Kapoor gave many hits with Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit. Mr. India, Lamhe, Laadla with Sridevi were major hit at box office. Tezaab, Ram Laakhan, Parinda, Kishan Kanaiya with Madhuri Dixit were major hits, but Zindagi Ek Juaa, Jamai Raja, Jeevan Ek Saangarsh, Khel were total flop. 1942 A Love story had Anil Kapoor in a very different role against Manisha Koirala. Yash Chopra's Lamhe was a romantic movie in which script was entirely different and had Anil Kapoor in two different shades
He has two brothers: Producer Boney Kapoor, who is 1 year older than him, and actor Sanjay Kapoor, who is much younger . He also has a sister, who is married in Delhi.
The Kapoor Brothers are related somehow to the Raj Kapoor dynasty. They are distant cousins. Anil's father was Prithviraj Kapoor's country cousin. Anil and family, come from Chembur.
Anil is married to Sunita Kapoor, who is his dress designer. She also runs this fitness gym called IDEA'S ( integrated dance & excersise academy) Its in Juhu, about 10 mins from their house. She is opening another one townside. She does not teach there but has many excellent instructors working for her. Its one of the best aerobics gym in bombay!! Anil himself had inaugurated it some years back. They have 3 children: 2 daughters Sonam and Rhea, and 1 son, Harshawardhan. Sonam Kapoor is an upcoming Bollywood actress.
Today Anil Kapoor is on the peak of his career having Judaai and Viraasat, Dewaana Mastana as major hits in his lot. His performance in Viraasat fetched him with Videcon Screen award in best actor catogery. In day's of Akshaye Khanna and Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor has made place for himself in this industry. Anil Kapoor in still wanted in the public and his old and new movies are still appreciated by the public.
Anil Kapoor's latest releases like Biwi No.1, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, and Nayak. All are prominent roles. In Biwi No.1, he proved that he can also do comedy. While in Nayak, he played the role of man who gets the choice to become a politician for one day. He showed that if he gets to be a politician, India would rock !!!
